Every answer starts with one question: what do published veterinary sources say about this item, for this species?
Where answers come from
We use veterinary references, poison services, veterinary schools, and veterinary and welfare charities. The full list, with the species each one covers, is on Our sources. Blogs, shops, brand sites, forums and AI answers are never used as evidence.
How a verdict is decided
- Toxic needs at least two sources from different publishers saying the item harms this species, and at least one must be a veterinary reference, poison service or veterinary school.
- Caution and Safe need at least one source about this species. A Safe answer always carries its conditions, such as an occasional treat or a small piece.
- If sources disagree, we use the more cautious verdict and say that they disagree.
- If there is no source about this species, we do not publish an answer. Not verified never means safe.
How each page shows its working
Every claim names its publisher. Each source is listed with its title, a link, the date we read it, and the passage we relied on, quoted word for word.
Review
A person approves every answer before it is published. Answers are reviewed again within a year, and toxic answers within six months. If a page changes after approval, it comes off the site until it is approved again.
